Break a big task into steps
Turn a big or vague task into a few small steps, as its subtasks. Pick ✨ Break it down from the task’s menu, then keep the steps you want.
A task like “Plan the move” is hard to start. Break it down asks Claude for three to seven small steps, and adds the ones you keep as its subtasks.

Break it down
On a phone
- Tap the task to edit it.
- Tap ⋯ in the bar, then ✨ Break it down.
On a computer
- Right-click the task.
- Choose ✨ Break it down.
The ✨ card opens with the steps, each ticked.
Keep the steps you want
- Untick any step you don’t want.
- Tap Do these.
The steps go under the task. If the task is in today’s plan, its steps come into the plan with it. Undo in the note at the bottom takes them all back.
Not right? Type in Not quite? Say what to change (“Make them smaller”) and tap Fix it for a new set.
When it isn’t in the menu
✨ Break it down shows only with AI on, and only for an open task in one of your lists. It isn’t offered for:
- a subtask (a subtask can’t have subtasks of its own)
- a finished task
- an Inbox task: move it to a list first
