Sections and subsections
Sections split a list into parts, and a section can hold subsections. Add, rename, fold, color, move or delete them from their titles.

A list can have sections, and each section can have subsections. Nothing goes deeper.
Add one
- A section: on a phone, press and hold the space between two sections until a blue + appears, then let go. On a computer, in a window wide enough to have a margin, point at that space and click the small gray + in the left margin. In a list with no sections yet, tap or click the gray + under its tasks.
- A subsection: tap or click ⊞ on a section’s title.
Type the title and press Enter.
Change one
- Rename: tap or click the title and type.
- Fold: tap or click the ▾ before the title. A folded title shows how many open tasks it hides, such as ▸ 2. Tap again to unfold.
- Color: on a phone, tap the title, then ⋯. On a computer, right-click the title. Choose 🎨 Color. A subsection takes its section’s color.
- Icon: a title like Kitchen or Work gets one by itself. To change it, change the words.
Move one
On a phone, hold the title until it lifts, then drag it. On a computer, drag the ⠿ beside the title. A blue line shows where it will land.
Drop a section on the middle of another section’s title to combine the two.
The title’s menu (⋯, or right-click) also has:
- Promote to a section or Demote to a subsection.
- Demote to a task: its tasks become the task’s subtasks.
- Move to a list… or Make it its own list.
And a task’s menu has Promote to a subsection: its subtasks become the subsection’s tasks.
Delete one
On a phone, swipe the title to the left. On a computer, point at the title and click the ✕ at its right end. Everything in it goes too. If it has open tasks, it asks first. Undo brings it all back.
Jump to a section
The arrow button with a small ▾, second in the tool bar, lists every section. Pick one to go there.
