Import from Todoist
Download a backup from Todoist on a computer, or a CSV file for each project, then choose it in Ring List’s Import card.
Before you start
- Use Todoist in a web browser or its computer app. Its phone apps can’t export.
- A backup of every project at once needs a paid Todoist plan. On the free plan, export each project as its own CSV file.
In Todoist
Everything at once (paid plans):
- Click your picture at the top left, then Settings.
- Open Backups and click Download beside the newest one. Todoist may ask for a code first, if you sign in with two steps.
- Keep the
.zipfile as it is: don’t unzip it.
One project at a time (any plan):
- Open the project and click ⋯ at the top right.
- Choose Import & export, then Export to CSV. (Some versions of Todoist call these Manage data and Export as CSV.)
- Do the same for each project you want.
In Ring List
- On Ring Lists, tap or click the + circle, then import.
- Under From, choose Todoist.
- Tap or click Choose the .zip or .csv file and pick the backup, or all your project files at once.
Each project becomes a list with the project’s name.
What comes over
- Sections, subtasks, and each task’s description and comments, as its note.
- Priorities: p1 as !!!, p2 as !!, p3 as !.
- Due dates and times, and repeats.
@labelsin a task’s name, as labels.
What doesn’t
- Finished tasks. Todoist’s file has only the open ones.
- Reminders, who a task is assigned to, and the files in comments (their links stay in the note).
- A repeating task’s next date. Todoist’s file says only “every week”, so the task is due on the first such day from today. Check your repeating tasks after importing.
- Anything Ring List has no place for stays in the task’s note, on a line starting “From Todoist:”. See After an import.
