Import from Apple Reminders
Reminders has no Export. Save each list as an .ics file with the free EasyReminder ICS app, or every list at once with a shortcut, then import it.
Reminders on today’s iPhones, iPads and Macs can’t save a list as a file. There are three ways around that. Pick the first unless you have many lists full of subtasks and tags.
Way 1: the free app EasyReminder ICS
One list at a time. Keeps repeats and alerts. Works on an iPhone, an iPad or a Mac.
- Install EasyReminder ICS from the App Store, open it, and let it see your reminders.
- Choose Export and pick the list under Export source. Turn on Include completed if you want the finished ones too.
- Choose Select all, then Export as ICS…, and save the file.
- Do the same for each list.
Each file becomes one list, named after the file. Notes, due dates and times, priorities, repeats, links, finished reminders and up to five alerts come over. Subtasks, flags and tags don’t: the file doesn’t have them.
Way 2: a Mac with macOS Mojave or older
In Reminders, select the list, then choose File, then Export. You get the same kind of .ics file as way 1.
Way 3: a shortcut, for every list at once
Every list in one go, with subtasks, tags and flags, but no repeats or alerts. You build the shortcut yourself in the Shortcuts app (about ten actions): the steps are on the Import card when you choose Apple Reminders.
The lists arrive in a group called Apple Reminders. A flag comes in as Flagged 🚩, apart from the priority.
Bring it into Ring List
- On Ring Lists, tap or click the dashed + circle, then import.
- Set From to Apple Reminders.
- Tap or click Choose the .ics or .json files and pick your files. Several at once is fine.
Good to know
- Use one way, not two: importing the same lists both ways gives you each list twice.
- From an
.icsfile, a reminder at a place (when arriving or leaving), and a repeat Ring List doesn’t have, are kept in the task’s note, on a line starting “From Reminders:”.
