Repeating tasks

A repeating task comes back on its next date each time you tick it off. Set one from 📅 while editing the task, or type “every week”.

The date window's 📅 tab, with the repeat row ringed: Doesn't repeat, Daily, Weekly (lit), Every 2 weeks, Monthly, Monthly, 4th Thu, Yearly, Custom…

Make a task repeat

  1. Tap or click the task to edit it.
  2. Tap 📅.
  3. In the row under the days, choose Daily, Weekly, Every 2 weeks, Monthly, Yearly or Custom…. A task with a due date also gets one like Monthly, 3rd Fri.

Custom… repeats every so many days, weeks, months or years, on the days you pick, and can end on a date or after so many times. Done sets it.

Or type it at the end of the words: “Water the plants every Monday”, “Stand-up every weekday at 9:30”, “Pay rent every month on the 1st”.

An Inbox task can’t repeat until it’s in a list.

When you tick it off

It stays open and moves to its next date, worked out from its due date (not from the day you ticked it). If it was overdue, it jumps to the next date still ahead.

A crossed-out copy stays at the bottom of its section, with the day you did it. Turn on Show finished to see it. On its last time, a repeat with an end is finished for good.

Undo puts it back on its old date and removes the copy.

Skip it once

Open its menu (⋯ while editing, or right-click on a computer) and choose ⏭ Skip this time. It moves to its next date with no copy.

Stop it repeating

Edit the task, tap 📅 and choose Doesn’t repeat. Its due date stays.

Habit or repeating task?

A repeating task has a due date and must get done. A habit is something you do for yourself: it’s never due or overdue, and you check in instead.
