Move a task
Drag a task to a new place, or use Move to a section… or Move to a list… in its menu. Its subtasks, note and attachments go with it.

Drag it
On a phone
Hold the task until it lifts, then drag it without letting go.
On a computer
Drag the task by its ⠿ handle, at its left.
In a long list, hold Option (on Windows, Ctrl) as you start dragging. The page folds to just its section titles, so you can drop the task on any of them.
- To reorder, drop it on the top or bottom edge of another task.
- To move it to another section, drop it on that section’s title, or on a task in it.
Tasks in a section stay sorted by priority, so a task can land a little away from where you dropped it.
Use its menu
On a phone
Tap the task, then ⋯ › Move to a section… or Move to a list….
On a computer
Right-click the task › Move to a section… or Move to a list….
Then pick where it goes. In Move to a section…, ● marks where it is now. An inbox task has Add to a list… instead.
Move to a list… puts the task near the top of that list, above its first section. Your pinned sections (📌) are at the top of the choices, to send it straight into one. A note says Moved to “…”, with Undo and Follow it, which opens that list and shows you the task.
On a computer, with the sidebar open beside the page, you can also drag a task onto a list or a section there.
The task’s subtasks, note and attachments go with it. A subtask moved to another list on its own becomes an ordinary task.
Several tasks at once
On a computer, you can select several tasks and move them together:
- Click a task to edit it, then Cmd-click (on Windows, Ctrl-click) the others. Shift-click selects every task in between.
- Drag one of them, and they all go. Or right-click one › Move to a section… or Move to a list….
The same menu can also snooze, close as Won’t do, or delete them all, and the editing tool bar gives them all a priority, a label or a date. Each is one change with one Undo. Esc ends the selection.
Phones don’t have this.
