Learn the basics

A one-minute lesson at the top of the sample list teaches the basics on your phone or computer. Each step is passed by doing it.

The first time you use Ring List on a phone or a computer, a Learn the basics card is at the top of the sample list. It asks for one thing at a time. Do it to any task in the list, and the card moves on.

The sample list on a phone, with the Learn the basics card at its top: step 1 of 4, swipe a task to the right to finish it

The steps

On a phone

  1. Swipe a task to the right to finish it.
  2. Tap Undo, the curved arrow above the list, to bring it back.
  3. Swipe a task to the left to delete it.
  4. Hold a task until it lifts, then drag it up or down.

On a computer

  1. Click a task’s checkbox to finish it.
  2. Click Undo, the curved arrow above the list, to bring it back. Ctrl+Z does the same (⌘Z on a Mac).
  3. Point at a task and click the ✕ at its right end to delete it.
  4. Drag a task up or down by the ⠿ at its left.
  5. Right-click a task for everything else you can do with it.

When it’s done, Start a list of my own takes you to Ring Lists with a new list ready to name. Keep exploring leaves you in the sample list.

Put it off

Skip on the card puts the lesson off until tomorrow. The second time, it stays away.

On your other devices

A phone and a computer work differently, so the lesson is offered on each. On a device that hasn’t had it, a note under the top bar says “First time using Ring List here?” Press Show me, or Not now, which counts as a Skip. If you had deleted the sample list, Show me gives it back.

Do it again

At the bottom of Ring Lists, press Practice the basics. If you’ve deleted the sample list, press Add the sample list there first.
