Import from OmniFocus
Export OmniFocus to a CSV file and import it: each project becomes a list. To keep repeats, copy the projects as TaskPaper on a Mac instead.
OmniFocus can save everything as one CSV file, on a phone, an iPad or a Mac. That brings every open project, but not repeats. If many of your actions repeat, use the TaskPaper way for those projects.

In OmniFocus
On a phone
- Tap More, then Settings.
- Under Database, tap Export to CSV.
- Save the file in Files or iCloud Drive.
On a computer
- On a Mac, choose File, then Export…
- Pick CSV (or CSV UTF-16: either works), and save it to your Desktop.
In Ring List
- On Ring Lists, tap or click the dashed + circle, then import.
- Set From to OmniFocus.
- Tap or click Choose the .csv file and pick the file.
What comes over
- Each open project becomes a list, and the inbox a list called Inbox, all in a group called OmniFocus. Folders don’t come over.
- Action groups’ actions become subtasks, however deep.
- Tags become labels, a flag becomes important (!), and due dates keep their time.
- A defer date still to come snoozes the task until then.
- Finished actions come in finished, and dropped ones as Won’t do. Finished and dropped projects are left out.
- Notes come over. An estimated time, and whether a project was on hold, are kept in a note line starting “From OmniFocus:”.
Not in OmniFocus’s file at all: repeats, review dates, and attachments.
Keep your repeats
This way needs a Mac, and brings the projects you select as one list, with each project a section.
- In OmniFocus on a Mac, select the projects.
- Choose Edit, then Copy as TaskPaper.
- Paste into a new TextEdit document. Choose Format, then Make Plain Text.
- Save it with a name ending in
.taskpaper. - In Ring List, import it with From set to TaskPaper, not OmniFocus.
Repeats and planned days come over this way. See Import from TaskPaper for the rest.
