Ring List Help Open Ring List

Import from Google Tasks

Export your tasks with Google Takeout, a .zip file Google emails you a link to, then choose it in Ring List’s Import card.

Before you start

Google Tasks has no export button of its own: Google Takeout makes the file. It works on a phone or a computer. It can take from a few minutes to a day or more, and Google emails you when it’s ready.

In Google Takeout

  1. Open Google Takeout and sign in with the Google account your tasks are in.
  2. Tap or click Deselect all, so only your tasks are exported.
  3. Scroll down and check Tasks.
  4. At the bottom, tap or click Next step.
  5. Choose Send download link via email, Export once and .zip, then tap or click Create export.
  6. When Google’s email comes, open it and download the .zip file. The link lasts about a week.

Don’t unzip the file: Ring List reads it as it is.

In Ring List

  1. On Ring Lists, tap or click the + circle, then import.
  2. Under From, choose Google Tasks.
  3. Tap or click Choose the .zip file and pick the file from Google.

Each of your Google lists becomes a list, all in a group called Google Tasks.

What comes over

  • Every list, even an empty one, with its subtasks.
  • Each task’s details, as its note, and links, such as the email a task was made from.
  • Dates and times, and repeats.
  • Finished tasks, finished on their day.
  • A starred task, as important (!).
  • A task with a date and a deadline is due on the deadline and planned for the date.

What doesn’t

  • Deleted tasks.
  • A subtask’s own subtasks come in as subtasks of the task above.
