Import from TaskPaper
Pick your .taskpaper files: each becomes a list, its projects become sections, and its tags become labels, with @done tasks finished.
A TaskPaper document is already a file, so there’s nothing to export. Find it, and pick it in Ring List.

Bring it in
- On Ring Lists, tap or click the dashed + circle, then import.
- Set From to TaskPaper.
- Tap or click Choose the .taskpaper files and pick them. Several at once is fine.
On a phone, the files need to be somewhere the phone’s file picker can reach: iCloud Drive, Google Drive or Dropbox. A file ending in .txt works too, if it’s written TaskPaper’s way.
What it becomes
- Each file becomes one list, named after the file.
- Projects become sections, and a project inside one a subsection.
- Tasks under a task become its subtasks. Notes stay notes.
@donecomes in finished, and@cancelledas Won’t do.@dueis the due date.@startor@deferstill to come snoozes the task until then.@flaggedis important (!).@priority(1),(2)and(3)are !!!, !! and !.- Other tags become labels.
- The Archive’s tasks go back to their projects, finished.
- A saved search (
@search) that looks for words, tags or a priority becomes a saved search of the list, in the sidebar under Search All.
Good to know
- A tag’s value, such as the
1hin@estimate(1h), has nowhere to go: the tag comes over, and the value is kept in the task’s note, on a line starting “From TaskPaper:”. - A file over 1 MB is too big. Split it into two.
- The file must be plain text. One saved as rich text in TextEdit won’t read.
